The completion ceremony of the multi-modal cross-scale biomedical imaging facility was held

On the morning of November 3, 2022, under clear skies and a gentle autumn breeze, the red flag flew proudly at the shore of Yanqi Lake in Huairou Science City. It was the completion ceremony of the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure project, the Multi-Modal Cross-Scale Biomedical Imaging Facility (referred to as the "Imaging Facility").

In her speech, Jie Qiao reviewed the construction process of the imaging facility. On behalf of the university, she expressed gratitude to the relevant departments of the state and Beijing, to the Huairou District Party Committee and the Huairou Science City Party Working Committee and Management Committee for their strong support for the construction of imaging facilities, and extended greetings and congratulations to the scientific research workers involved in the planning, preparation and construction of imaging facilities, as well as to the comrades in the engineering design, construction, management and supervision units. Jie Qiao pointed out that the imaging facilities have far-reaching significance and great responsibility for Peking University. The imaging facility is the first national major scientific and technological infrastructure built by Peking University as a legal entity, the first project explicitly included in the national Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development by Peking University as a legal entity, and the first large-scale organized scientific research project designed by the university with the participation of multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, medicine and information. It is also the single teaching and research construction project with the largest total investment.

Jie Qiao stressed that the imaging facilities reflect the characteristics of universities as the first productive force of science and technology, the first resource of talent, and the first driving force of innovation, and should and will play a greater role in Peking University's new journey to accelerate the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. It is necessary to speed up the installation and debugging of imaging facilities and equipment, and open to operation as soon as possible; To further explore the management mode of organized scientific research and realize the innovation of system mechanism; Lead the development of the discipline, train outstanding talents, and produce significant results; Play a radiation driving role, service high-quality development.

Ding Mingda pointed out that the completion of the imaging facilities marks that the Science City is accelerating the formation of a clear, advanced and high-end major science and technology infrastructure cluster, and has taken a solid step toward the goal of building a world-class original innovation bearing area. The report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that we should implement the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education, accelerate the implementation of a number of major national science and technology projects with strategic overall foresight, and enhance the capacity for independent innovation. Imaging facilities bear the sacred mission of improving the level of original innovation in the field of biomedical imaging in China and promoting the development of China's high-end biomedical instrument industry, and will play an important role in winning the battle of key core technologies and realizing the self-reliance of high-level science and technology. Mingda Ding hopes that the imaging facilities team will take the completion of infrastructure as an opportunity to continue to adhere to first-class standards, create high-quality projects, and strive to complete the project early, early operation, early results, and contribute to the construction of Beijing International science and technology innovation center and the construction of science and technology power.

Heping Cheng said that imaging facilities, as a new super research tool, will reveal the mysteries of life in a panoramic manner from micro, mesoscopic and macro levels. The colleagues of the imaging facility team "feel the great responsibility", and will take the completion of the building as an opportunity to further do the overall planning of scientific research and talents, carry out big scientific research, train big scientific talents, and create a "science and technology aircraft carrier", give full play to the supporting role of imaging facilities for major research in the field of life science, and explore a new research paradigm of organized scientific research. At the same time, we will integrate science, technology, engineering, industry and society, create an innovation ecosystem, improve the overall efficiency of the innovation system, form a competitive open innovation ecology, and strive to give full play to the due role of national strategic scientific and technological forces.
