    Professor Dong's research interests include scientific computing, machine learning and its applications in computational imaging and data analysis. He has made outstanding contributions to applied and computational mathematics, especially mathematical modeling and algorithm design and analysis in image and data analysis. In theory, together with his collaborators, Dong Bin established a profound theoretical connection between two important mathematical branches (PDE and wavelet method) that have been independently developed in the field of image for nearly 30 years, changing some established understandings of these two types of methods and developing ideas. At the same time, he also induced some new image processing algorithms, which have been successfully applied in medical image analysis. This theoretical work has also stimulated the research of Dong Bin's team in deep learning, establishing the connection between numerical differential equations and deep network architectures, and designing new algorithms for mechanism and data fusion for important problems in image science. In terms of application, Dong Bin's team designed new algorithms of mechanism and data fusion for important problems in computational imaging, medical image analysis, and scientific computing, including biomedical image reconstruction algorithm, image segmentation algorithm, clinically assisted decision algorithm, and PDE positive and negative problem calculation.
